Taka Kigawa will perform the following pieces of music:

J.S. Bach: Prelude and Fugue in D-sharp minor, and F-sharp minor (from The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II)

Pierre Boulez: Douze Notations

Reiko Fueting: Schattentanz for violin and piano (World Premiere, with Doori Na, violin)

New Chamber Ballet's 2017/18 season continues with a program of five ballets by Miro Magloire with live music on violin and piano:

The World Premiere of the complete version of "Bach," a quartet to preludes and fugues from The Well-Tempered Clavier.

The World Premiere of "Schattentanz," a collaboration with composer Reiko Fueting.

The revival of Tilting / Leaning. "The title doesn’t do justice to the inventiveness of the action: [the dancers'] weight-sharing, limb-locking, head-butting and other modes of manipulating one another’s bodies, often in deliberately arduous ways. Pierre Boulez’s Notations... reflected their sense of discovery. Sarah Thea Swafford’s costumes — maroon bodysuits with sheer accents, black point shoes — were appropriately stark." "Lace," a ritualistic trio to Luciano Berio's Sequenza for violin. "Whenever (one dancer) is performing a short solo, the other two sit on the floor in poses that call up images from Greek friezes… Their calmness is a nice contrast to the intricacies of the solos..." "Morning Song," a solo set to John Cage's Cheap Imitation for solo violin. "[Dancer Elizabeth Brown's] blend of poetry and authority put me in mind of some of Martha Graham's most evocative works... I have continued to be in awe of [Elizabeth's] particular gifts as a dancer and interpreter; this solo really shows her off to perfection." (Philip Gardner, Oberon's Grove)

Performers include Sarah Atkins, EL Brown Hudec, Kristy Butler, Traci Finch, and Amber Neff. The music will be played live by Doori Na (violin) and Taka Kigawa (piano).
